Obituary for Ellen L. Buege

Ellen Linnea Buege, age 94, of Mattoon passed away at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home.
Graveside services honoring her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Roselawn Cemetery. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Ellen was born on October 15, 1924 in LaGrange, IL the daughter of Carl and Marie (Tullgren) Hellstrom. She married Charles H. Buege on February 3, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Survivors include son, Lawrence “Larry” (Ellen) Buege of Bella Vista, AR; grandchildren, Charles Buege, Karen Buege, Patricia Sutera and Julie Scanlan-Rios; and great-granddaughter; Sophia Rios; son-in-law, Richard Scanlan. In addition to her husband, Ellen was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Lynn Scanlan.
Ellen was a former secretary for the United States Army Signal Corps, 5th Army during World War II. She worked as secretary and assistant cashier at the Bank of Clarendon Hills from 1959 until 1968. Ellen later retired from the American Cancer Society where she was the Area Director over 14 counties from 1974 until 1990. Ellen was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Dorans.
Memorial donations in her honor are suggested to the Mattoon Lions Club for the blind or the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home.
