Obituary for Wayne Clark

Wayne E. Clark, age 89, of Mattoon passed away at 9:45 p.m. on February 9, 2018 at Mattoon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Funeral services honoring his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Schilling Funeral Home with Dr. Dan Haifley officiating. Burial with Military Rites by Cumberland County Veterans will follow at the Friends Grove Cemetery near Toledo. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Schilling Funeral Home.
Wayne was born on December 6, 1928 in Champaign County, the son of Carl Clayton and Nellie Grace (Lafenhagen) Clark. He married his sweetheart, Lola Irene Titus on April 10, 1953.
Survivors include his loving wife, Lola Clark of Mattoon; his three children, Jeanie Lee (Scott) Weber of rural Ashmore, IL, John Wayne (Susan) Clark of Mattoon, IL, Jackie (Brad) Perry of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren, Coartnee Ashcraft of Oakland, Clayton Weber of rural Ashmore, IL, Kacy (Heath) Ross of Windsor, Benjamin, Luke, and Caroline Perry of Mattoon, IL; great-grandchildren, Kegan Weber and Logan and Jace Ashcraft; brother, Carl William “Bill” Clark of Springfield and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Wilma “Willie” Jean Clark.
Wayne was formerly employed at Kuehne Furniture Company and retired from the Caterpillar Plant in Decatur after twenty-five years. Wayne was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, serving from January of 1951 to January of 1953. He was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church and a Mason with the Mattoon Masonic Lodge #260. Wayne was a member of the Eagles Club in Mattoon and the American Legion in Neoga. Following his retirement, Wayne assisted several area farmers including his son-in-law Scott Weber with their farms. He enjoyed riding horses. Wayne was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed traveling to Daytona, Florida area during the winter months. Most of all, Wayne enjoyed getting together with family and going to his grandchildren’s baseball games.
